Time Line
You can follow the progress of construction by watching the changes to the time line below. It is in reverse order so that the latest activity is always at the top.
- May 20, 2005 - Status Report from the Communications Committee
- It was August 1995 when a Long-Range Planning Committee started to develop and explore ways that LUMC could better serve its growing congregation and the growing community. One of the most pressing needs was for more space.
Now some 10 years later - after much prayer, hard work and anticipation - the LUMC Ministry Center is becoming a reality. While it has been moving to see the steel beams go up and create the building itself, the most important part of the process is what will bring the center to life - what happens inside.
The Mission Statement for the center is clear that its focus will be outreach. "The mission of the LUMC Ministry Center is to build the body of Christ through creative ministries that strengthen the physical, spiritual and social well being of ALL people for the Glory of God."
All three floors of the Ministry Center are designed for a multitude of activities and outreach. However, one of the most significant parts of the building could very well be its smallest room. There will be a prayer room tucked into the third floor underneath a beautiful stained glass window donated to the church several years ago in memory of a deceased member. It will be a place of prayer and quiet reflection in the midst of more than 25,000 square feet of activity. It will embody the many years of prayers as members sought God's will for LUMC and this new Ministry Center.
A Ministries Team has been working on the various uses for the Center and the list of possibilities is long - and exciting. It will become the location for the Anew Worship Service as well as the Wednesday night suppers, Sunday School classes and youth rallies. It can become a Red Cross shelter, house Salkehatchie groups or provide after-school programs. It can also be a place for sports leagues, exercise classes and UM District-wide events.
In Matthew 5:16, the words of Christ give Christians a very clear charge: "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." (NKJV) Let the Ministry Center be our beacon and a place where we bring glory to the Lord.

- August 30, 2004 - News Release
- The following news release was sent to The Lexington County Chronacle and to The South Carolina United Methodist Advocate.
Groundbreaking for LUMC
Ministry Center
A new multi-purpose Ministry Center is being constructed at Lexington United Methodist Church! Groundbreaking for the 3.5 million dollar, 27,000-foot expansion was held on Sunday, August 22, on the site of the future Ministry Center. Approximately 200 people attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony.
The Lexington UMC Ministry Center will house a full-size gymnasium and stage area on the main level, along with two classrooms, an office, storage space, and two large restrooms with showers. Included in the basement level of the Ministry Center will be a number of classrooms, restrooms, and storage rooms. An elevator will access persons to the lower level and an upper level, where a classroom and a sound/lighting room will be located. The Ministry Center will be connected to the main building at two locations. It will be constructed so that additional expansion in the future will be possible. Renovations to the present Fellowship Hall and kitchen at Lexington UMC will also take place during the construction of the Ministry Center.
The Ministry Center and renovations will give Lexington United Methodist Church the opportunity to expand its programs and ministries in one of the fastest growing counties in South Carolina. Construction of the Ministry Center should be completed near the end of 2005.
- August 29, 2004 - Contract Signing

- August 23, 2004 - The Razing of Decapolis

The first evidence that the building is truly underway was the razing of the former Youth House, Decapolis.

- August 1, 2004 - Decapolisis is Deconsecrated
- In preparation for the groundbreaking the Youth House, Decapolis, must be razed. In preparation for this the house was deconsecrated. About 75 youth and adults took part in the service, which was held in front of Decapolis. Several current and former youth were invited to speak about their spiritual experiences in the house. Rev. Knight closed the service with a statement of deconsecration and all of the people in attendance held hands in a large circle as the service was closed with prayer.
Provisions are being made for the youth to meet in the main building on Wednesday night and Sunday. Things will be somewhat cramped while the new building is under construction, but the additional space that will be provided by the new building will more than make up for the loss of Decapolis.

- July 18, 2004 - Church Conference
- On Sunday, July 18, 2004 a Church Conference was convened after the 11:00 AM service. The purpose of this conference was to approve the latest proposal by the Building Committee. The proposal was approved and the building will get underway very soon. The contractor, McCrory Construction Co., LLC, will be on site sometime during the month of August, 2004.
This is a very exciting development for the future of our church. It will enable LUMC to continue to provide all of our current programs and expand into new areas of mission that our current facilities will not accommodate. LUMC has reached the point in the life of the church that, without new facilities, we will not be able to accommodate the many new people who are moving into the area
and would like to be a part of our church family. This page will keep you up-to-date with the latest information about the status of the building program.
You can view architectural drawings at the Architects BC web site. Before you go to that web site the first time you need to scroll down this page and read the instructions about how to use the Architects BC web site.
There are a few drawings at the bottom of this page. However, the images on this page are ONLY concepts, not committed plans. They represent the architects attempt to project the possibilities of using our property to our fullest advantage. The only "committed" plans are the ones for the new Mission Center, which will be built directly behind the fellowship hall. The images below should be thought of as "clay models." They do not show windows, doors, or land elevations. Even the roof lines are speculation at this point in time.
Architects BC of Lexington has been contracted to develop the architectural drawings for LUMC. They are working on the final plans for our building program and they will be available for approval
soon. You will be able to view these drawings on Architect BC's web site when they are finished. We have a link to their web site below. There you can view:
- The latest architectural drawings (Design Services)
- Minutes of the building committee meetings (Project Administration Services)
In the future more information will be added to that web site to include:
- Planning and Evaluation Services
- Construction and Procurement Services
- Contract Administration Services
You might want to print this information before you go to the Architects BC web site so that you can refer to them as you view our building plans.
- Click on this link to go to the Architects BC Web Site.
- When you get to their web site click on Project Management at the top right side of the screen. The words are red print on a black background, so you have to look closely to see them.
- When the list of projects comes up scroll down until you find Lexington United Methodist Church. Click on that and a window will pop up asking for a user name and a password.
- Type in lumc (in lower case) for the user name.
- Type in vision (in lower case) for the password
This will bring you to the Project Management page. Not all of the links shown on the Project Management page are active now. Only the Project Administration Services and the Design Services links are active and will take you to other pages with detailed information about the building plans. The other links on the page will be activated at appropriate times during the
project.
- Click on "Design Services." This will bring you to the Design Services page.
- Click on "Construction Documents."
This will bring you to the Contract Documents page. On this page you will see a list of the drawings you can view. They are available in CAD .DWF format and in Adobe .PDF format.
- To view the .PDF file simply click on "Download PDF" beside each drawing.
To view the .DWF file you must first download the free viewer. The advantage of the .DWF viewer is that it allows you to zoom and pan. This allows you to see much more detail than you can see with the PDF viewer.
- Click the link at to bottom of the page to download the viewer. Follow the instructions to download and install the viewer.
- After the viewer is installed you can click on any of the "View this drawing" links to view all the details of the CAD drawings.
You can now view the CAD file and see all the details on the drawing.
