Lexington United Methodist Church

A "Safe Sanctuary" Church

Children's Ministry

He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me." Mark 9:36-31

Philosophy

As Members of the United Methodist Church, we uphold the rights of children and acknowledge that children are a sacred gift from God. In proclaiming that sacredness, we in the Church carry a commitment to enable all children to experience the fullness of life as Jesus proclaimed.

Children's Ministry Mission Statement

At L.U.M.C. we promise to surround these children with a community of love and forgiveness, that they may grow in their service to others. Our intention is to minister to the needs of all children and provide them with a caring community where all may be nurtured in a dignified and loving manner.

We welcome you to Lexington United Methodist Church (LUMC). Children are a valuable asset to our church family and make many contributions to the life of this church. Together with other children, youth, and adults we are learning and growing in our Christian faith.

At LUMC we offer many activities for children of all ages. It is our hope that this information will answer questions you might have about our programs.

General Information
Classes are available for children who are two years old through the fifth grade. Our curriculum is published by the United Methodist Church. All classes for children have at least two teachers. Many classes have team teachers who rotate every other month. We follow the guidelines of the public schools for placement in our classes.

A separate "Rainbow Class" has been developed for children who have special needs. The teachers in this class are highly qualified people who want to share their love of God with these special children.

We provide training for anyone who is interested in becoming a member of our teaching ministry.

Sunday School begins at 9:45 and is the traditional Sunday School format. The curriculum used is material developed by the United Methodist Church for use in such classes.
