Children's Ministry

He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me." Mark 9:37

Philosophy

As Members of the United Methodist Church, we uphold the rights of children and acknowledge that children are a sacred gift from God. In proclaiming that sacredness, we in the Church carry a commitment to enable all children to experience the fullness of life as Jesus proclaimed.

Children's Ministry Mission Statement

At Lexington United Methodist Church (LUMC) we promise to surround these children with a community of love and forgiveness, that they may grow in their service to others. Our intention is to minister to the needs of all children and provide them with a caring community where all may be nurtured in a dignified and loving manner.

Sunday Mornings at LUMC

Sunday School

Sunday School classes are available for children who are two years old through the fifth grade. All classes for children have at least two teachers. We follow the guidelines of the public schools for placement in our classes, and promote at each new school year.

Sunday School begins at 9:45 and is the traditional Sunday School format.

We currently use Cokesbury's Deep Blue curriculum for our 2s/3s through our 3rd grade. To meet the characters, get an overview of the curriculum, and see the scope and sequence of the lessons, visit www.deepbluekids.com.

The 4th/5th graders use The Action Bible curriculum based on the popular Action Bible. Visit this site to get an overview of this unique version of the Bible and the curriculum.

Children's Church

During both the 11:00 AM worship services a children's moments  is offered. After the children’s moments, at approximately 11:30, children who are  four-years-old through 2nd grade are invited to leave worship to attend Children's Church.  A Bible-based lesson and activity are part of this program, and coordinate with the sermon scripture in the traditional service. This way families will have experienced the same scripture and can talk about it together at home.

Wednesday Evening Fellowship

Our Wednesday Evenings run September - May and begin with a (optional) Family Fellowship Meal at 5:30 - Please click here for meal menus and information. Then from 6:15-7:15 classes are offered throughout the church. The children's activities include:

KidsWay (ages 3 through 3rd Grade)

KidsWay is for children ages 3 (potty proficient) through 3rd grade. It is a fun, exciting, and informative place for them to learn about God's word through a variety of activities including playing, singing, crafts, and of course, Bible stories. Contact Katie Vitters with any questions you may have about KidsWay.

BREAKOUT! (4th and 5th Grade)

This encompasses the idea of the children moving from the children’s program to the youth program.  While they are still part of the children’s program at LUMC, they are breaking out into their own group meetings, following their own curriculum, and doing their own missions, in preparation for their transition into youth.  They also participate in several acivities throughout the year such as a Christmas party and and end of the school year bowling party. Please contact Jennifer Cammann with any questions about the 4th/5th grade Ministry.
