Children's Ministry

He took a little child and had him stand among them. Taking him in his arms, he said to them, "Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me." Mark 9:37

Philosophy

As Members of the United Methodist Church, we uphold the rights of children and acknowledge that children are a sacred gift from God. In proclaiming that sacredness, we in the Church carry a commitment to enable all children to experience the fullness of life as Jesus proclaimed.

Children's Ministry Mission Statement

At Lexington United Methodist Church (LUMC) we promise to surround these children with a community of love and forgiveness, that they may grow in their service to others. Our intention is to minister to the needs of all children and provide them with a caring community where all may be nurtured in a dignified and loving manner.

Sunday School

Sunday School classes are available for children who are two years old through the fifth grade. All classes for children have at least two teachers. We follow the guidelines of the public schools for placement in our classes.

We provide training for anyone who is interested in becoming a member of our teaching ministry.

Sunday School begins at 9:45 and is the traditional Sunday School format. The curriculum used is material developed by the United Methodist Church for use in such classes.

We currently use Cokesbury's Deep Blue curriculum. To meet the characters, get an overview of the curriculum, and see the scope and sequence of the lessons, visit www.deepbluekids.com.

Children's Church

During the 11:00 AM worship service a children's moments sermon is offered. After the children’s moments, approximately 11:30, children who are in the four-year-old through 2nd grade.  A Bible-based lesson and activity are part of this program, and coordinate with the sermon scripture in the traditional service. This way families will have experienced the same scripture and can talk about it together at home.

Wednesday Evening Fellowship

Our Wednesday Evenings are current on a break for Summer Vacation. We will resume in the Fall, the Wednesday after Labor Day. We hope to see you then!

KidsWay (ages 3 through 3rd Grade)

KidsWay is for children ages 3 (potty proficient) through 3rd grade with a focus on providing our children an engaging activity they are invited to attend every Wednesday night (September through May). It is a fun, exciting, and informative place for them to learn about the Word their Way! It is from 6:15-7:15 after Fellowship Supper. KidsWay Wednesday’s are full of energetic games, crafts, music, active play and lessons.

BREAKOUT! (4th and 5th Grade)

This encompasses the idea of the children moving from the children’s program to the youth program.  While they are still part of the children’s program at LUMC, they are breaking out into their own group meetings, following their own curriculum, and doing their own missions, in preparation for their transition into youth. BREAKOUT will meet every Wednesday at 6:15 in room 209/210, upstairs. They also participate in several outings throughout the year such as ice cream socials, movie nights, bowling, progressive dinners, and a trip to a local theme park. Please contact Chrissy Wilson with any questions about the 4th/5th grade Ministry.
