Lenten Journey 2012

The Season of Lent extends 40 days. Sundays are not included in these 40 days since each Sunday is a commemoration of the first Easter.  This season of the church year is a time of preparation, reflection, growth and change.

For some, Lent is a time of fasting - a time of sacrifice.  For others, it is a time of reflection and repentance, giving up past sins and failures, and becoming more receptive to God's grace and forgiveness.  Some people spend time in prayer and study, while others discover how they can share God’s love with others in the world through service.
Purple is the liturgical color used during this season.  It is reminiscent of royalty, repentance and the somber nature of this time.

During Lent, you are invited to fast one meal a week and bring the money you saved for an offering for Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS) and Snack Sack ministries.  Offering baskets will be located in the Narthex, the corner of the Altar Rail and Wesley Hall.  Make checks to LUMC and specify “Lenten Fast.”

The Art of Worship
Lenten Journey

During this season of Lent, you are invited to participate in a unique expression of scripture entitled The Art of Worship!

Each Sunday of Lent will focus on a theme inspired by the Lectionary Scripture.  Each week, you are encouraged to read the Scripture and spend time in prayer and contemplation as you share your vision of the Scripture through art.  Be creative!  There is no limit to the medium you choose and ALL ages and generations are encouraged to participate. This could be a coloring page, drawing, painting, photo, or something all your own!

Bring your art to Wesley Hall each Sunday to be displayed on the back wall as we watch our “gallery of art through Scripture” GROW!

On Easter Sunday, April 8, we will celebrate in Wesley Hall with a short time of praise and worship through music during the Sunday School hour as we journey together the walls of our gallery!

Please lend your time and talent to this meaningful expression of Lent! This could be a wonderful time shared as a family, Sunday School class, or for yourself to seek God’s word.
