Lexington Interfaith Community Services

Mission Statement

With the mission of Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS) “Faith moves us to serve our neighbors in crisis,” LICS assists individuals and families who are experiencing hurting situations by providing for basic needs and creating environments which allow people to make hopeful life changes.

This organization recently moved to its new location at 216 Harmon Street, Lexington, South Carolina 29072. The new building enables LICS to have all of its functions under one roof, including the administrative, social services, donation center, food pantry and thrift shop operations.  You may contact LICS at their website:  www.licssc.org.

Phone:  803-957-6656, Fax: 803-957-3414.

  • Emergency Services provided by LICS consists of food, clothing, limited financial assistance, referrals, short term counseling, service brokering to families/individuals living in Lexington and Saluda County and certain zip codes of Calhoun County who struggle to meet their basic needs.
  • Outreach Centers provide emergency services for basic needs to families and individuals in their local communities.  The LICS Outreach Center is located in Swansea serving the Swansea, Gaston Communities of Lexington County.

Volunteer Services

The volunteers are the very heart and soul of the LICS ministry.   Approximately 350 volunteers work in this ministry in any given month. Volunteers work in all aspects of the main center and all outreach centers in planning and development and other leadership roles.  In the Ministry area, there are a variety of volunteer positions.  Examples include clerical work, interviewing people seeking assistance, packing and sorting food, and general office work.  Volunteers in the Thrift Shop receive donations and prepare them for the shop.  Volunteers also greet and provide any needed assistance to customers. In the Food Pantry, volunteers receive donations, sort and organize food and prepare packages for distribution.

Church and Community Involvement

The church community is the foundation that feeds LICS with contributions of all types. Lexington United Methodist Church supports LICS in many areas. Our church members serve on committees that provide planning and development and liaison services; provide support by volunteering; make financial, food and clothing contributions; work on special service projects; and by our prayers.

Anyone interested in volunteering should call 803-957-6656 extension 223 to speak with the volunteer coordinator and schedule a time to attend an orientation program. You are also encouraged to speak with the LICS Coordinator for our church, Sammie Brown or email Sbrown8885@sc.rr.com.
