Small Group Leader Resource Page

Welcome to the resource page for small group leaders at Lexington United Methodist Church.  Here you will find resources to help you plan and lead a small group.  It doesn't matter whether you are leading a structured Bible study or and unstructured support group, a Sunday School class, or an administrative committee, there is something here for you.  Not every leader needs all of these resources.  The needs of a leader of a structured Bible study such as Disciple are different from the needs of a leader of a UMW Circle or the leader of an administrative committee such as finance.

The resources you will find here fall into the following five basic areas

• Group Covenant - Every small group and Bible study should include a group covenant.  A covenant is like an agreement or promise.  It spells out what the group is all about and how it’s going to operate.  LUMC offers training in group covenant-making.  We also offer resources, such as sample covenant forms to assist groups in preparing their covenants. • Biblical Equipping - Every small group, even those that are not primarily a Bible study group should set aside time to read study the Bible.  There is a technique known as Biblical Equipping that can be used by any group. The Biblical Equipping technique engages the members of the group into a ten to twenty minute personal and collective discussion of a passage of scripture.  LUMC offers training in Biblical Equipping and resources for small group leaders to draw upon when they plan. • Community Building and Care - Every group should include time to build bonds of trust within the group and for ongoing care for the members of the group.  LUMC Provides training and resources to help group leaders and group members care for each other throughout the life of the group. • Prayer and Worship - Every small group should include time for Prayer and Worship.  This is a time set aside for group members to express praise and adoration for God.  LUMC offers training and resources for group leaders to plan and carry out Prayer and Worship. Learn more.....

• Missional Service - Every group should serve God by serving people outside the class.  LUMC provides training and resources for groups to use in planning their Missional service. Learn more.....
