LUMW Mission Spotlights

The United Methodist Women (UMW) at Lexington United Methodist Church supports missions through budgeted giving and our fundraising efforts each year. The following are the Mission Spotlights for 2010:

Nancy K Perry Children’s Shelter

Since its founding in 1972, the Nancy K. Perry Children's Shelter has provided safe harbor for more than 5,000 children in Lexington County. The Shelter exists to provide residential care and nurture to children who are in crisis, victims of sexual or physical abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exploitation.

Columbia Bethlehem Community Center

The Columbia Bethlehem Community Center (CBCC) provides diverse educational and enrichment experiences that engage and empower children and families of the Edgewood and Waverly Communities.

The mission of the Columbia Bethlehem Community Center is to provide a safe, Christ-centered environment where children and youth are nurtured through activities and programs that address their educational, spiritual, physical, mental and emotional needs. Additionally, the Center seeks to empower women and families to enhance their quality of life by providing assistance and services with special attention to the concerns of justice and advocacy.

Killingsworth Home

Killingsworth is a care-giving community residence for women who are emerging from crisis situations:  recovering from alcohol and/or drug abuse, incarceration, mental and emotional problems, violence and assault, or family crisis situations can find shelter and support. Killingsworth is staffed 24 hours a day with trained personnel who provide support and supervision.

Killingsworth is related to the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church from whom grants are occasionally received. Other contributions come from individuals, church groups, community based organizations, and memorial gifts.

Wallace Family Life Center, Bennettsville, SC

This is a family-oriented facility whose mission is to provide educational, cultural, recreational, and religious programs to enrich the lives of the people in the Wallace community.

Rural Missions at John’s Island

Rural Mission, Inc is an ecumenical organization that provides human, spiritual and social services to low-income Sea Island residents and migrant workers. Through education, advocacy and outreach, Rural Mission provides a lifting hand -- spiritually, emotionally, physically, and economically -- whatever the need, ministering to anyone on the S.C. Sea Islands. To better meet the needs of our migrant children and families, the mission collaborates with outside agencies by networking their local migrant task force, schools, health and social services, and governmental agencies, as well as farm workers’ organizations and local churches.
